Reminds us of: orange wine, banana passion fruit.
We sourced this coffee specially for the Western Regional AeroPress Championship, ultimately selecting it for its alluring and versatile flavour profile. A natural Caturra from El Placer, its almost rummy notes of orange with a hint of creamy sweetness offered a lot of room for individual expression in a brewing competition.
As such, the range of suggestions we received when we crowd-sourced the tasting notes was remarkable. Using their unique AeroPress recipes and techniques, competitors tasted blueberry compote, cacao nibs, bubblegum, honeydew melon, red wine, chocolate, baklava... and from our AeroPress Champion: blue raspberry Kool Aid and lemongrass. It just goes to show that flavour is, to an extent, malleable — and very subjective.
Regardless, one thing's for sure — this is a winning coffee.
